Default Just some meaningless observation (but you should read: not everything needs meaning)

So I've noticed, and it's probably just my bias, but stick with me. I've noticed that people who are vehemently opposed to alcohol then get drunk they actually like it, and end up becoming alcoholics some of the time. I totally forgot my point, someone make something up.

Reactionary thinking in any dynamic often belies conflicted emotion or repression. Tell me what you hate and I can know you. It is almost a cliche: the pervert evangelical, the straight-laced kink, the macho homophobic homosexual.

ok that works. and i don't think that was my original point, but it is in a round about way. So we're going to say yes.

    Default A strange phenomenon

People often say they want the exact opposite of what they really want.

The vehement atheist? I've always wondered about that one.

    The hypocrite! kidding

I think people in general are quite inaccurate in judging the effect/responses of something unless they have actual experience with it.

It's like people guessing the weight of an object by looking at it. Unless you're familiar with the said object, you'll be way way way off.

Perhaps they are opposed because they have relatives who are alcoholics and are possibly predisposed to alcoholism themselves?

Just a thought- though I've met people who claimed that sex before marriage were evil and ended up becoming rather slutty as well

It is an interesting and prevailing way for humans. Mayhap there is a denial in it all? I could speak specifically for the homophobic homosexual, denying their harder truth..

But it'd have to be really hard on someone, to truly believe something as wrong, but absolutely be attached to it in the case of homosexuality.

But back to the OP. I find more often then not people who abstain from drinking boasting about it as if they are something superior to the person that does drink. I could see a link between that immature sort of thinking, and being addicted..be it to the thought of superiority.. or when that crashes, the thing that turns out to not be inferior itself..

It comes from the awareness of being lied to/betrayed/given false hope by the whole society.
