I was hoping that there would be more men giving their raw perspective on being male in this thread
What does it mean to me, to be a guy.
Well, for me, it means the back-of-the-mind guilt around acting aggressive or insensitive at times is sometimes forgiven as typical "male aggression." That kind of thing is easy to take for granted and hard to stop.
It means feeling insecure about my accomplishments, in a continual sense of competition of me-against-everyone, but then positively reinforced when some folks revere me blindly for my skills and capabilities, which I often believe is somehow related to the "good boy" archetype I try to portray at times.
It means talking about guy-things, like cars and motorcycles, but having my in-depth knowledge understood under the guise of "yep, he's a typical guy" rather than "yep, he's done his research."
It means going to work, making money, and considering that "some day, I will be in a similar situation as my dad; staying away from home for 8+ hours a day to go make money and come home to a family that depends on it." The acknowledgement of responsibility that comes along with this.
It means sometimes listening to sappy/emo songs in private, as a form of guilty pleasure, guilty only because the moment I reference such a band or song to my female friends, they subtly dismiss the association as if I were listening to such music for some shallow or fake purpose, that "guys can't be into artsy sensitive stuff like us girls," despite the fact that I've been able to appreciate such things for a long time. (this mainly coming from a specific couple friends of mine, who are generally good friends except this piece leaves a sour taste in my mouth.)
WTF, you ladies freaking Hijacked our Effing thread. Can we get back to topic instead of woman using makeup to attract us?

"If you go looking for something in particular, your chances of finding it are very bad, because of all the things in the world, you're only looking for one of them. If you go looking for anything at all, your chances of finding it are very good, because of all the things in the world, you're sure to find some of them."
