Default The Wedding DJ Redux (was Audio tech help)

I'm hoping some of our smartypants members can help me out with an audio issue. I'm going to be DJing for my brother's wedding reception in two weeks. Tonight I sat down with him and his wife to figure out what they wanted me to play. For her father/daughter dance, she chose Daughters by John Mayer. Sweet song, right? Well, I just listened to it all the way through and the second verse might cause some people to cringe:

    Oh, see that skin?
It's the same she's been standin' in
Since the day she watched him walkin' away,
now she's left cleanin' up the mess he made
The rest of the song is perfect and she really wants to use it. Does anyone know if there's some way I can easily cut the second verse from my mp3 without it sounding awful? I tried to find a shortened version for weddings as I know it's a very popular father/daughter song, but no luck. Her parents are divorced and it could really be iffy to play that verse.

Nobody will understand John Mayer's mumbling anyway.

You can do it...I'd go to download.com and look at freeware audio editing software. If you find one that's worth a damn, you should be able to chop it and apply a fade out so it doesn't end abruptly.

I would offer a specific recommendation, but I don't have vast knowledge of the current available software.

Awesome. I did that and chopped out the offending verse. It still sounds like there's a split-second CD skip in there but that's better than everyone staring into their wine glasses.

I do most of my editing with cdwave. It's real simple to cut pieces out of anything, you just pick the point and hit the "split" button and then again at the end of the piece and then just uncheck the middle part when you save.

pirate sony acid 5 (or whatever they are up to). throw the clip in there and do some cutting lol. shouldn't be too hard. and someone mentioned that you can't understand john mayers mumblings...well theyre right lol.

you could download on legally too. but if you are a DJ you might wanna get Acid or (if you have a mac) Logic or many others.

I'm not a professional DJ, but I did my sister's wedding reception music and everybody seemed to enjoy it, so my brother asked if I would do the music at his too. So I am. I have thought about doing it on the side for a little extra cash, but since I pretty much refuse to get on the mic and MC an event and I don't mix in real time it'd be a niche market, probably "the budget option."

    I'll check it out, though..
