I think that might be more satisfying if childbirth were something that men coveted. As it is, I don't think that process is appealing to much of anyone (with the exception of Hmm).

Holy shit! I'm amazed by what this thread has produced! I originally posted it just sort of as a joke, just threw out into the Fluff Zone to see what would happen, and there's been a lot of really great, thought provoking posts. I wasn't anticipating anyone taking it very seriously, and I wasn't even intending to learn from it. I was stunned to see like 15 pages of posts when I logged on today, because I posted that last night just before I logged off and went to bed.

Last time I ever make a period joke (I made one earlier today when a friend of mine said she had a problem I'd never really understand )!

I didn't think so either, but the births of my two children ended up being the most meaningful experiences of my life. I knew for a short time what it was like to be deeply and essentially human, with 50,000 years of culture and technology stripped away.

    That sounds awesome!!!

I am not going to lie, I really do look forward to one day becoming a mother.

Judge me if you'd like, but having and raising a child is one of my major goals in life.

It's exactly like that. A fairy tale even.

Just as it's the most miraculous thing I've ever done, motherhood can also be extremely irritating. There are days when I just want to escape. The good news is that usually very soon after I feel this way, I am witness to a wondrous site such as my son looking like an angel while sleeping or one of our daughters saying something great unexpectedly.

Enjoy yourself now as marriage and motherhood takes at times some juggling and patience. You can't do whatever you want anymore but when you're ready the trade off is well worth it.

If you have children but don't feel their birth miraculousy that's okay too. I felt more like Ivy -- fully human, or maybe more specifically, fully mammalian which was maybe even more interesting than feeling human.

Now if non-parents want to know what being a parent is like, that's a whole different thread.

You're right I won't. I kind of think I have been through enough.

I thought perhaps this thread would be interesting, and then it hit like a brick to the sternum...
