    Default Today at work...

Today at work, this girl said to me,

"Jeez I thought it was closer to six!"

after looking at the clock and noticing that it was 5:55 (or thereabouts).

She said she thought it was closer to six at 5:55.
I hope you understand the implications of this.

For a moment I couldn't believe my ears and was tempted to ask her to repeat herself.

    Instead, I responded with,

"You know, we're not all that far away -- exactly how many digits does your internal meter count?"

She had no idea what I was talking about.

I spent the next few minutes wondering whether she was constantly aware of the minute hand at every increment. I figured no she couldn't possibly be -- else she wouldn't have gotten the time wrong.

In the end I decided it was something reflexive -- something she said without really thinking very hard about it. I figured that since she had no idea what I was talking about when I asked her about her internal clock that she may have not known she even said it.

    Seriously...
    What the fuck?

Maybe she was trying to make conversation without really having to think hard about things? I know plenty of people who do that (and my response would have been "closer to 6 than to what?")

Probably asking her something about internal clocks confused her and threw her a loop because she expected you to discuss 6 o'clock, or polls closing or something with her instead that took little brain power!

I was going to type her, but people don't like MBTI.

She almost said it to herself. And she doesn't usually want a conversation with me because that's the kind of response I give.

    Fucking right?

How many sentences are in that discussion? Seems like she had the whole conversation right then and there.

Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if that was her aim -- it's something she'd do.

one of those random spacy types...

... definitley torment is the only answer to such a situation since she wasn't aiming for entertainment!

I don't blame her. Those last 5 minutes can be longest and most painful to get through.

Maybe she forgot to set her watch back for daylight savings time? She enjoys her time with you so much that she was complaining about it being 6:55 and wished it was closer to 6.

Has anyone thought of the possibility that she may have misread the clock to read as 4:55 instead of 5:55?? [This is based on the assumption that this was a normal wall clock and not a digital clock, of course... ^^; ]

...because there are plenty of times I've done something so very similar...
