You know that girl... yeah, that one...

That big question? No, not that one, the other one. Yeah, that one.

    Feels nice doesn't it?

    It's OCD man, OCD.

    Your most bodaciously future self.

    Dear Maarten,

Here's the scripts to a couple of movies you'll like called, "The Dark Knight", "Pirates of the Caribbean" & "Finding Nemo".

Patent them and move to Hollywood now.

    Sincerely,
    Me

I am sad it took me so long to discover this thread. It's a frigging awesome idea - a backwards message in the bottle to yourself.

I'm sure I'll be back with more but here's where I'd start.

    Dear Ergo,

Don't fret the small stuff, there will be plenty of big stuff to fret over and you may miss the forest for the trees...

You will do some incredibly exciting things in the future and very many dull tasks will be required of you as well. The sooner you get through the dull ones and the better you do them so they don't have to be repeated or modified, the sooner you'll get to the more exciting ones.

You will say and do some incredibly stupid things. Remember, when you do them, that someone else has most definitely said and done even stupider things and they likely turned out to have a perfectly wonderful life. Yours will be at least somewhat perfect and mostly wonderful.

Listen carefully to advice from people you respect and trust but ultimately go with what YOU think is best.

That's it. Keep your nose clean.

    Your even more awesome self.

Aside from the obvious? Like when and what to invest money in? Who wins what games and races? etc... etc...

Hmm... 10 years isn't far enough back in time. I'd have to go at least 15 years back to make any significant changes, even then I'm not sure I'd have too much to say.

Now, 20 years back... 16... I'd have all kinds of advice. Mainly, it would involve a boost in self confidence that I didn't achieve till 19 or 20, and advice to go ROTC rather than enlisted. Also, I'd tell myself not to put so much salt into my romantic relationships of the time... let the drama happen later.

    Dear 20 year old me,
Moving to Las Vegas will not work out for you. Break up with Greg. Get a decent job, save money, and get back to school ASAP.

You are going to end up with thyroid problems soon, so prepare yourself. It will be a tough road, but you are going to make it. Your parents and brother love you and will be there for you every step of the way.

Have fun, don't be so scared to meet new people, and renew your driver's license. Don't be like the future you and put it off and get scared of driving. Driving is no big deal.

    Love,
    Future you

Nothing, I wouldn't have listened, even to me.

    Dear mademoiselle,

I know that physical activities aren't the most fun in the world for you, but you need to get motivated to get involved in some. You will learn to like physical exercise! You may eat well, but if you want to be strong, you need to get fit, too. Don't be like me - get outside! Dance! Jog! Snowboard! Whatever you want, as long as it gets your heart pumping.
    Love,

The older, unathletic version of you

(Naturally, I wouldn't listen to this, but it's good to try.)

    i would say,

    dear little r.a,

dont go to college just yet! chill and work for a couple of years and go to school when you are ready.

dont let ANYONE borrow your music gear.

watch out for emotionally immature/unstable women! they will come in waves for years!

if you feel like she is cheating, she is.

if you feel you are being cheated, you are.

if you feel anything, it is.

women are expensive. dont let them get too comfortable with your generosity.

stop giving out your energy like a fucking soup kitchen. its YOUR life-force!

obey traffic laws as much as you humanly can. you will spend more money on legal fees than you will on your home studio.

read the four agreements and live by it.

    AND DONT JOIN THE ARMY.

    sincerely,
    big r.a

Good Grief! Your alternate time lined self would become a bit overly paranoid, don't you think?
