Default New Solar Minimum; Mini-Ice Age - The Cure for Global Warming

"If you want to go back to see when the Sun was this inactive... you've got to go back about 100 years," he says.

This solar lull is baffling scientists, because right now the Sun should be awash with activity.

All that "cheap, renewable" energy technology is dependent upon expensive traditional technologies. The cost of it will come out of all our pockets. Thus, whenever Big Alternative Energy loses, the people of the United States of America win.

France gets 70% of its electricty from nuclear power.
Nuclear power was opposed in the West primarily by Lenin's "useful idiots" who were told to hate it: the real reason it was opposed by the left is that nuclear reactors were necessary to create some of the components for nuclear weapons the West needed to deter Communism.
But even if one took the oppostition to nuclear power at face value, there are newer technologies (pebble bed reactors, molten sodum reactors (IIRC), thorium-based nuclear power) which don't have the same meltdown risks as what people think of as "conventional" nukes.

Germany shut down 7 of its nuclear reactors after the Fukushima meltdown, although nobody was killed by the meltdown. In its place, Germany has installed wind turbines and solar energy collectors. The costs of all this are driving energy costs through the roof. In the meantime, whenever there is no "renewable" sun or wind, Germany is dependent upon coal-fired energy plants, having shut down some of their nuclear power plants.

While other countries in the EU have been decreasing their 'carbon foot-prints,' Germany's 'carbon foot-print' has increased due to the closure of the plants and the increased reliance on coal.

Yeah, like the Toyota Prius is fueled by electricity, which just springs naturally out of the ground, the way Gaia intended -- all one has to do it tap the earth, as one does a Maple Syrup tree, and the electricity comes out. Right.

It's possible, in a way - considering Tesla. The difficulty with Tesla's idea of wireless transmission of power is the inability to put a meter on it, thus charge a fee for it. Industrialists of the day would never stand for that.

I've never understood why leftists support burning cellulosic ethanol or butanol or making biodiesel when these are organic molecules just like the hydrocarbons in gasoline and methane (natural gas). When you burn any organic molecule, you're going to get CO2 and isn't that what all the hub-bub is all about? The best solution (to global warming) is, as grey_beard pointed out, to build more nuclear power plants.

On the other hand, Uranium is a rare element. It's not going to last forever.

Yes, but we have a 3,000 year supply of Thorium.
