For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.

It's funny. I was flipping through channels the other day, and there was a show on where a neuroscience professor was helping to catch a bomber by asking yes or no questions to a bombing victim that was unable to communicate normally.

He asked them to think about one thing for yes and to think about another thing for no. Then they used the fMRI to get answers.

Accept the past. Live for the present. Look forward to the future.

    This is exciting.

Hopefully MRI technology will advance enough that these people won't have to wear an SUV-sized hat just to be able to speak.

This is great news. Now those with 'locked in' syndrome can communicate.
The book "The Diving Bell and The Butterfly" was dictated by Dominique Bauby using blinks from the lid of his left eye. That was the only part of his body he could control. Now others aflicted similarly will be able to 'speak'.

This is why I love brain computer interfacing though I am still concerned about the implications on privacy and culture
