My suggestion: If you want to use it for reading, get an e-reader. If you want a tablet, the iPad just seems overpriced.
I've been using my Sony PRS-505 for over two years now and wouldn't want to miss it. I don't have a Kindle, but they seem fine too. - The e-ink display definitely makes a huge difference if you want to read longer texts.

"Mainly for reading" - Kindle is the way to go. Like @whatever mentioned, it's geared for reading but it gives you internet access and the ability to listen to music, etc.

Yeah, agreed on Kindle (I have a Sony reader as well, which isn't bad, and could save you money). The tablets are good readers if you want more magazines (color photos) and some of these newer interactive books coming out (which seem to be mostly for kids).

You're in Europe right? You don't have access to the Kindle Fire from Amazon yet, if I do recall correctly.

I wish they'd make a school kindle. Like, connects to Dropbox & PDFs beautifully, and has a wonderful annotation app. Seems like such a waste of money to go full tablet when so many people just need a little more than a kindle fire.
