There is potentially a million dollars in answering that question conclusively.

Any thoughts? Any angles to apporaching this problem you would be willing to share?

Correct.

They come up with the idea from time to time.
But it is all nonsense.

I'll have to note that I don't consider this P != NP proven yet, and I dont consider strong feelings towards it morally equivalent to having it actually proven. This is not one of those things that I think of as a sure thing in absolute sense.
