I love ants, their behavioural patterns stun experts even today. Able to use ant-built live rafts in order to survive as colonies. Or build bridges made from ants to cross uncrossable terrain. And with such intruiging accuracy as to not leave a single ant behind.

It's not just ants, but spider type robots,snake like robots, and of course human type robots.

Researchers have been studying the motions of creatures in nature to see if they can find more efficient or flexible types on movements as compared to wheels.

An ant or spider type robot if made sturdy (and remains as flexible and precise as seen in the video), would make great retrieval robots inside collapsed buildings, or areas where bombs may be planted. Wheeled robots would have a harder time managing uneven terrain than pedal robots.

Also, you gotta admit, it would make a cool pet or Roomba alternative.

That was the first use I thought of for it. Bomb retrieval. If they can increase the speed on how fast that thing's legs move and find a way to allow it to climb up near-vertical surfaces and program some AI into it so it can run off of a mission and perform a search of an area, it would be an extremely powerful device.

I could imagine a small group of these being released into a building and performing a swift sweep for any explosives and managing to have enough "intelligence" to know how to disable them before the human team would move in.
