Because I can't imagine you could have really been enjoying the movie if you were thinking about MBTI while watching it.

Er, no actually. Anyway, what's that got to do with the original thread of discussion?

    Ofelia~INFP
Carmen~XSFJ of some sort, probably an ISFJ
Vidal~ESTJ as fuck (and a damn evil one at that)

You're all missing out the most important characters.

    The glass bottle:

Clearly Se the way it tears into Vidal's face without a moments thought or hesitation in such a physical way is pure Se. Se is always inclined to action over reflection.

I'm thinking ISTP because it doesn't speak much, indicating introversion.

    The stitches: obvious ISFJ

The stitches are introverted, they almost never speak, but they are not building logical blocks as with Te, they clearly care for Vidal despite his actions and manner. Loyalty, even to tyrants, is an SFJ issue since we all know they are unable to think for themselves without a guiding role or a set of rules. Fe is clear in this case.
'One of (Lucas) Cranach's masterpieces, discussed by (Joseph) Koerner, is in it's self-referentiality the perfect expression of left-hemisphere emptiness and a precursor of post-modernism. There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist

Suppose a tree fell down, Pooh, when we were underneath it?"
"Suppose it didn't," said Pooh, after careful thought.
    Piglet was comforted by this.
    - A.A. Milne.

This is a really beautiful movie - definitely in my all-time top 10 or even top 5. I think most of these characters have a simplicity to them and are pretty easy to type.

    Ofelia - INFP. 9w1?
Mercedes - definitely FJ, seems NFJ
    Carmen - ISFJ
Captain - ESTJ or even iSTJ
the giant gluttonous frog - ESxP or INxJ in the grip of inferior Se
The Pale Man - also INxJ. there's something Ni-ish about having eyeballs that detach from your body.
