Let us discuss, correlation of MBTI types and vehicles! Cars have personality. Whether that personality is interesting or not is a different issue, just like people!

Discuss!

...

The military tank! An armored death machine manned by a loyal crew, it obliterates everything in it's path! Totally ENTJ.

Stylish and bad, this is the perfect vehicle for escaping from the police and compensating for your lack of personality when seducing trashy shallow women from the bar. ISTX. All the way.

Who needs aesthetics or performance when you've got the ability to haul a soccer team and their equipment, a hoarde of stranded Mexican hitchhikers(which may also be the former), a 3 month supply of groceries, and the entire VHS collector set of Sex and the City? The ESFJ sure as hell doesnt.

What car can properly express that fact that your ESFP daughter has no lid to keep her brains contained inside her skull, but is also trendy at the same time? The New Ford Mustang! And a 5-star crash test rating for when she inevitably runs off the road because she was talking on her cellphone instead of driving!

What vehicle is equipped with anti-fogging windows which will stay clear when you hotbox the cab, and run on vegetable/hash oil for when you run out of gasoline?(which you probably will. very soon) Why, the Volkswagen bus, dude! Thats right, you've been stuck behind an INFP driving 35 in a 65 for the last 3 days!

You've got it wrong.

That motorcycle can't be ISTJ -- they wouldn't run from the police. They'd take it like some kind of good citizen. You've got to stick with just ISTP.

And with the van, there's no way in HELL an introvert is driving something with so many stoned people in the back. It has to be some sort of ENF.

Nah, you just read too much theory and don't see any real world examples. I know of two ISTJ bikers, and both of them have a criminal record. They obey the rules. Just depends what rules. If you think Im wrong, you can go down to a biker bar for yourself and start issuing MBTI tests to them. ;)

We're typing vehicles, for fuck's sake. We've got to go by stereotypes. Otherwise we're lost.

Right, because people aren't likely to have the money to buy a vehicle that amuses them until they are a bit older.. and as they are older they want to play with the lesser functions. Witness the 40 year old man, with a classic ESTJ personality go out and buy an SP sports car.

Well if the stereotypes are wrong, why should the vehicles be based on them?

Well, in general, the SJ stereotype is wrong -- Si tends to blend in very well with everything, giving a strong sense of 'normal' to the SJ. They're not always rule-abiding citizens, they're not always rule abiding citizens, they're just very good at "when in Rome, do as the Romans do."

If that's the case, get rid of the ESFJ stereotype of the van. And get rid of all of them. A lot of INFPs have minivans, a lot of SPs drive tanks, and et cetera et cetera.

Or are we going by the personality of the VEHICLE rather than the personality of who's driving it? In that case, a motorcycle would still be an SP vehicle, even though a lot of SJs would still ride them, simply because riding a motorcycle is a very Se experience.

If I may add, here's an INTP car:

The Delorean! Because, you know, a car that ran on plutonium in 1985 was a *great* idea.

As an ENFJ, I would say Tucker Torpedo. Anything over-the-top, unsafe, equipped with a crash cubbie in the floorboard, and too fast to keep traction.

Though I do covet the Delorean.

Hmmm, I want a vehicle big enough that I'll have to pick other smaller, weaker cars from the tread of my tires. Big enough for all my friends and family and still maintaining a cozy and intimate atmosphere.

A jetliner with a military escort sounds perfect! :)

Did I pave the way for greater absurdity by typing the Brady Bunch, I wonder?

Motorcycles: SP
Race/sports cars: SP
SUVs: SJ and SP
Skateboards: SP
Bicycles: SP
Family cars: SJ
Station wagons: SP/SJ. A lot of “artisan” tradespeople used to drive them; carpenters, electricians, etc., using the extra space for their tools. But they sometimes doubled as SJ family cars as well.

“Wussy” and “feminine” vehicles, including motor scooters: NF. I’m not the kind of guy who would ridicule another guy for driving one of those VW bug remakes, for instance, but there are definitely the “real man” types out there who consider guys who drive feminine vehicles to be “pussies” and “faggots”. They see another guy step out of one of those and they automatically want to beat the crap of him, you know?

Futuristic movie/TV/cartoon/anime cars: mix of NT and SP. Of course, the marvelous plutonium-fueled, time-travelling Delorean. Also, Speed Racer’s Mach 5 and Racer X’s Shooting Star, and not the ones from that travesty of a movie they just made which I would not deign to type, but from the original vintage Speed Racer series. Knight Rider. James Bond vehicles. Air cars (why don’t we have those yet, anyway, what’s taking them so long??).

Haha. Funny stereotypical predictions. :)

But here's reality:

Me: INTP driving a 1998 Honda Civic 4 door, dark green
Wife: enFP driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan, white

(I sometimes drive the minivan too, as I'm the main, and usually the only, driver on family trips.)

Really I'd prefer an Accord over a Civic. I just got rid of my 1992 Accord when we purchased the minivan, and then I "inherited" my wife's Civic to drive to work (when I actually have to go in).

A certain ENFJ friend did not think my car was very cool, but it is very logical, so I was amused at this T vs. F perspective. :) But, personality preference doesn't explain everything, as my manager is an EnFJ, and he drives a dark-colored (black) Honda Civic too.

We chose these based on the cheapest cars which will carry all 5 of us plus some vacation/camping stuff which won't break down too often. We stick with the same manufacturer because I do almost all maintenance and repairs myself, and this makes it easier.

If I were single and had unlimited money, I'd be driving something exotic and Italian really fast. :D

If I were single and didn't have much money, I'd seriously consider driving a Formula 1 racecar for a few years. Hopefully I'd survive long enough to invest the money and live off of the investments the rest of my life. :)

Edit: I should add that in college, I actually outfitted my car with a prototype of a simple electronic device which I designed and built. It was a rain sensor which would turn on the windshield wipers. :D It was fairly sophisticated with a few CMOS chips to handle the logic of various conditions to make it work better and more idiot-proof. It was integrated into the dashboard with a lighted rocker switch. I spent an entire 4-day midterm break building it and installing it. The actual sensor unit which detected the rain was not very durable, however, so it was a short-lived feature.

Heh. My SJ brother couldn't bear to get a mini-van despite having a bigger family. He got an SUV, then gas went way up. :9436:

I have a big family, too, and I love my mini-van. So does my INTP hubby. It doesn't get great mileage, but it doesn't do too horrible and it transports the six of us in relative comfort.

We'd much rather have some discretionary cash for books than have a 'cool' vehicle. When we don't have so many people to tote, I can see us getting a couple of really small, efficient cars.

I agree with the horse and carriages for INFPs, but I think the ultimate transport has got to be:

PM, I have just the car for you! A mining truck:

Probably doesn't do so well on the gas mileage, and might not be cozy and intimate, but for picking on smaller, weaker cars? :woot:
