Default Types of 80's New Wave/Synth Pop Musicians

I decided to start this thread because I'm absolutely convinced that Howard Jones is an xNFJ (but is he ENFJ or INFJ?) yet am equally convinced that there aren't enough people who give a flying fuck about Howard Jones to make it a good thread.

Sooooo...80's New Wave/Synth Pop Musicians in general. I think this will be fun because I love this genre of music.

Feel free to talk about whomever you want.

    Howard Jones - xNFJ

    Peter Murphy - INFP

Boy George - xSFP, Enneagram 4

    Aimee Mann -

    Simon LeBon (Duran Duran) -

    Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) -

    Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) -

    Thomas Dolby -

AARGH so many of these are bands rather than individuals, like Alphaville and The Pet Shop Boys, the Human League, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears...

Okay just take it and run with it.

    I'd say:

    Howard Jones ENFJ 3w4 Sp/Sx

    Peter Murphy INFP 4w5 So/Sx

    Boy George ESFP 4w3 So/Sx

He seems pretty ESFP in that interview:

    Aimee Mann ISFP 9w1 Sx/Sp

    Simon LeBon ENFP 3w4 So/Sx

    Dave Gahan ESTP 7w8 So/Sx

    Annie Lennox INFP 4w3 Sx/Sp

    Thomas Dolby INTP 5w6 Sx/So

    A few others:

    Adam Ant: ESTP 3w4 So/Sx
    Billy Idol: ESTP 3w4 Sx/So
    Nina Hagen: ENTP 6w7 So/Sx
    Hazel O'Connor: INTP 6w7 Sx/So
    EsTP 6w7 Sx/Sp

    Chaotic Neutral

That's a very good list. I definitely think Aimee Mann is some kind of FP. I was watching the video for "Voices Carry" and thinking it was an archetypal ENFP/ISTJ interaction ... that doesn't mean she's ENFP, it's art, but I definitely think she's some kind of FP.

I also think Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders is ISTP, even though they're more post-punk than new wave.

    Pat Benatar - ISxP(?)

    David Byrne - INTP 5w4 (sp/so?)

I see since you have Peter Murphy on your list, are we typing post-punk musicians as well?

His solo stuff sounds like New Wave to me, though Bauhaus is more like post-punk or "no wave."

Oh. Haven't heard it to be honest, but I fucking love Bauhaus.

Would you agree on David Byrne?

    Bryan Ferry - ENFJ 3w4?

I definitely agree on David Byrne. I'm not sure about Bryan Ferry one way or the other, but NF definitely seems correct.

My general impressions of the bands/artists you've mentioned that I am familiar with:

Howard Jones - xNFJ definitely. It's a bit fuzzy to tell if he's an extrovert or introvert for sure, but I would lean a bit more towards ENFJ... seems more expressive of Fe based values in his songs.

Boy George - xSFP, Enneagram 4 (yep, he's a 4... seems more exhibitionist to me, more outwardly expressing himself, so I am tempted to say ESFP for him)

Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) - She's been typed at a 4w3. Her music reads like Fi to me... so I would lean towards INFP.

Thomas Dolby - INTP, enneagram 5w6. His work is more cerebral.

AARGH so many of these are bands rather than individuals, like Alphaville and The Pet Shop Boys, the Human League, Thompson Twins, Tears for Fears...
    Alphaville, not sure about them....

The Pet Shop Boys... Neil Tennant seems like an INTJ or INTP 3w4 to me. Not sure about the other members, but the music seems like NT in touch with tertiary Fi to me. Tennant's voice in general sounds very INTJ-ish.

Thompson Twins- I'm unsure about their type, but I'm going to go with SP type for them.

Tears for Fears: In general, they seem more Fe-based to me. Possibilities: ESFJ, ENFJ, or INFJ.

Nik Kershaw: INFJ (or ISFJ) 4w5 so/sp.
