It's a guess.

He focuses almost entirely on his environment. Shoe lips, rapity tappity trashcans, rat under his hat.

What do you think it is?

Don't know. Fi dom wouldn't be my first guess, though. My first guess would be some kind of xxTP. And I'd guess ExxJ would be least likely. I really don't have an opinion beyond that.

I always took Tom Waits for an ISTP.

My old fallback for Waits was INFP. I could be wrong about that. I don't see ISTP for him.

I haven't seen an extensive number of interviews with him, so a lot of this is based on the roles he takes in films and the odd, surreal, experimental and poetic nature of a lot of his songs.

Your observations about Tom Waits attention to specific environment stuff seems like it's based on a few songs or lines out of an incredibly diverse catalogue. The general trends of his song isn't about the tapping of shoes or what-not (even in the cases where that is what he's talking about, it's at best Alice and Wonderland-level surreal). God's Away on Business? Poor Edward? Cemetery Polka? Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis? Rain Dogs? Day After Tomorrow? Road to Peace? Even the Piano Has Been Drinking is a list of things around a person, but it's really an oddly sad look at a man pushing all his own insecurities out to the world around him: it isn't actually about the stuff he's listing, it's about the man singing. A Soldier's Things is a song that's basically a list of objects, but it isn't about the objects in the slightest.

Maybe my favorite Waits songs are just so far apart from yours?

I intend to say that his exacting, subtle, widely-perceived-to-be scattered, yet melancholic songwriting approach comes across as familiar. During (infrequent) live performances, he embodies characters on an inseparable level with poise and honesty.

Because he's cool. Even Lexicon knows that he is an INFP; deep down she knows, and it eats away at her.

Sucka please.

Shh.. It's okay, I'm sure Björk is an INFJ or something.

I'm too sober for this, and I'm not sober at all.

Speaking of honey, I'll bet you're not even drinking mead.
You are a terrible Viking.

Sorry, I had to give it up; it was intruding on my whiskey time.
