I've heard von Trier typed as INFJ - in DN's movie director types compillation thread, I believe.

Checked out the thread but didn't see any arguments.

We're theoretically open to INFJ in terms of function theory (as mentioned, N and Fe is what we're sure of) but we don't have any experience with (Millon) antisocial INFJs violating Fe like Trier does.

Can any INFJs here see themselves in Trier in the above clips?

Heh, well, I had read and watched interviews before, but when I went looking for INTP quotes I stumbled on quotes for INFJ instead! Enough to convince Blackwater as well. Here is the typing with quotes in case anyone's interested.

Maybe the dissent here was of use after all. Thanks.

At this year's festival, he first joked that his next film was going to be a pornographic film in which Dunst and French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg had agreed to star. An increasingly (excruciatingly) uncomfortable Dunst was sitting next to him as he elaborated how she would probably fake her orgasms while the Frenchwoman would be able to get into it for real. He then changed the subject and got himself kicked out of the festival by saying, among other things, that he understands Hitler and sympathizes with him "a little bit". You can watch the antics here:

    Porn clip
    Nazi clip

The clips are worth watching just for the human element of Dunst's mortified helplessness (juxtaposed with Gainsbourg's unruffled appreciation) and Trier's own eventual realization that he has finally gone too far, and some people also find the clips absolutely hilarious in their button-pushing cringe-worthiness.

I post the clips as an aid in typing von Trier. Blackwater and I believe him to be definitely an N and definitely an Fe user. In the Millon typology, we have him pegged for an antisocial who loves to manipulate people and yank their chain. We are about ready to put him up on our site as an (antisocial) INTP whose over-the-top emotionality in his movies reflects his own repressed Fe, but does anyone out there beg to disagree?
I like your theory. He compels and frustrates in similar measure.

I think he's an INTJ. I followed what he was saying and it didn't come off as offensive to me at all. He's got that uber-Fi thing of trying to understand even the most heinous crimes and people. Probably 5w4 instead of the more popular 5w6.

In case you haven't seen it, a thread was started on him before which discussed his antisocial ways (not variant-wise specifically, but nonetheless). I agree that he seems least so variant.

I see two of those listed in the similar threads. So what's his dominant instinctual type?

I really have no firm guess about dominant, but it does seem to me like least so variant has a distinct character to it. My loose guess would be sx/sp, but that's just a vibey thing.

edit: I haven't looked at the other thread, the only one I've looked at was the one I linked- I remember when economica posted it.
