    I...N...T-ish...P

    I - contemplative
N - kinda obvious from his movies and books
T - interest in philosophy and mapping life, rather than living it
P - also in his writing, randomness, and chronic dissatisfaction

I've often wondered what type he is, as he is one of my favorite people in the whole world.

INTP sounds about right to me.

EDIT: (Which, based on my experience with INTPs, means that I am better off admiring him from a distance than actually knowing him. ---wink-wink :p )

Sounds good. On the Celebrity Type List thread, he's listed as INFJ. INTP seems much more accurate than INFJ.

I actually changed the Celebrity Type List two minutes before you posted this.

I've seen Woody Allen type as ISTP, INTP and INFJ, but INTP seems to be the more relevant typing. Especially for his gapped humor.

^ Seems awfully high-strung to be an INTP to me. Also, he tries too hard to be funny when he really isn't.
I'd go with INTJ. But that might just be Haight subliming me . . .

Grr, I click on this thread to say precisely this, only to find that bluemonday has beaten me to it!

He's an INxP. I'm not sure about T or F.
