Paul Verhoeven - seems highly extroverted to me; possibly ENTJ.
Ingmar Bergman also strikes me as fairly extroverted in interviews and reported on-set behaviour. Maybe ENFJ. (Strong Fe.)
Roman Polanski - Again, disagree on the E/I thing. ExTP.
Orson Welles - innovative maverick, notoriously incapable of finishing a project -
surely not SJ, I would say ENTP.

David Cronenberg - definitely NT, probably NTP.
David Lean - ESTJ or maybe ENTJ.
Jean-Luc Godard - another ENTP (his movies nowithstanding, he sure loves a good argument)
Any ESFJs? I would suggest George Cukor, maybe Ron Howard.

His films seem to focus on rash physical impulsiveness and their consequences, and tend to have a large focus on violence and visual/aural intensity. But I think ENFJ might actually fit better in terms of characterisation. I dunno, just a guess.

[edit] he seems to be uncomfortable talking about his own feelings and even his own films, and on Insider The Actor's Studio he said he loved the sound of his children which he said "was really corny" and seemed a bit embarrased by it. Plus he loves talking about his own encyclopedic knowledge of films, as well as upkeeping his film archives; seems kinda T.

Paul Thomas Anderson always seemed like an ENTP to me (rather than INTP). He always seems charged with (what appears to be) extroverted energy in his interviews as well as his commentary tracks. It looks like he really enjoys discussing anything with people and it seems he feeds off of that discussion. Perhaps it is just his love of film and his own films in particular that cause that energy.

kurosawa seems infj to me. michel gondry, david lynch, wim wenders too.

i'm still on the fence about where kieslowski and bergman go. either Ti dom or Ni somewhere high up on the list.

my latest guess for wes anderson is actually intp. there are some great interviews out there, we should discuss this. not sure about spike jonze, noah baumbach, and jean pierre jeunet (infj?). interested in truffaut, miyazaki, pedro almodovar, and hal ashby too. i could see mike nichols as infp pretty easily.

scorcese is entj. that's my final verdict. i don't know how the hell we thought dominant Fe. he's dominant Te 100%. he's crazy like an entj. switch around him and bill gates and you wouldn't miss a beat. he also has that "there's a crazy person living inside of me" smile that entjs do.

I think Fassbinder was xNTJ as well.

I think it's possible Bergman could be INTP after thinking about it a little more, but I see more Ne than Ni in Bergman - It's what distinguishes him from Tarkovsky.
