Just finished watching the 1964 cinematic version...

Mary Poppins - INTJ
Bert - ESFP
Mr. Banks - ESTJ
Mrs. Banks - ISFP
Admiral Boom - ISTJ
Jane Banks - INFP
Michael Banks - ISTP

Maid Ellen - ESFJ
Constable Jones - ISTJ
Uncle Albert - ESFP
Maid Nanna - ESTJ

...

I could actually conceptualize Mary Poppins as something of an ENTJ...

You must identify with Mary Poppins on a very deep level.

Haha.

I guess it's better than identifying with Hitler, eh Uber? :D

In my opinion, Mary Poppins is the invention of an INTj to magically handle all the detail work that they're impatient with so he can lose himself in his research. I've always thought ESFj for Mary.

(Although maybe she invented that creepy umbrella herself, thereby making her an ENTp.)

George Banks is more ISTj, although ESTj isn't that big of a stretch for him.

Can't speak for the rest of them because I haven't seen the film for quite some time.

I could see ISTj for George Banks.

What do you think of Poppins as ENTJ, Uber?

Her overall aura seems very SJ. Especially an informative SJ. She's considerably more warmhearted than George Banks, who is a directive SJ.

Agree with everyone of these! As a 8/9 year old I was obsessed by Mary Poppins and Mrs Pepperpot
And isnt it lovely that Mary and Bert are polar opposites but were good friends (I cant quite believe I'm talking about this - I think pre xmas hysteria has set in - God I need to finish work)

Hey no shit, I was thinking of starting a thread about this too. I watched it too last night.

I certainly would say INTJ too.

I would say that Mary Poppins is an INTJ who feels that self-discipline is a necessity. I could see an INTJ wanting to instill that into others as much as SJs do.

It is the best Walt Disney movie of all times.
Mr Banks was magnificient. Only Fred MacMurray could have done as well.

My Favourite Millionaire was also good.
They do not make movies like that any more.
The saga has come to an end.
What a shame.

totally awesome.

Yeah, I love when those mashups are well-done.
And of course, this is the more historically accurate depiction, I believe.

The other one to find is Thomasina. It is the ONLY Disney movie that actually follows the story line of the book.

Book and movie, though, Mary Poppins exhibits extraverted Thinking, keeping things organized. The way she has friends all over town and manages to visit them--actually makes that a priority--I'd say speaks for ENTJ. No self-respecting SJ would be popping in and out of chalk pavement pictures. Just ask Mr. Banks :D

I'd guess
Mary Poppins: ESTJ or ENTJ 1w9 sp/sx
Mr. Banks: ESTJ, possibly ISTJ 1w2 sp/so
Mrs. Banks: ISFP sx/so
Jane: ??F? 2w1 so/sx
Michael: ENFP 7w6 sp/sx (his reaction to the stolen topins seemed rather Fi, or I'd type him as ENTP)
PS: I'm probably way off on some of the instinctual variants

And I've already told you what I think about your opinions of Mary Poppins.

She's very warm and accomodating for a Victorian woman, and furthermore, her entire goal is to bring children closer to their parents. What an ENFJ task to undertake. Her entire purpose in life is to make people's relationships stronger by using magic, silly words, and good manners.

Why would an ISTJ need an ESTJ to come in and teach him to love his own children?

Sure, I know a bunch of ESTJs who carry around magic bottomless carpetbags and fly through the air with an umbrella, making up words, and admonishing the children to feel sorry for the homeless lady and feed the birds.

I think an ESTJ would have better things to do than dance around with cartoon penguins and have tea in the air.
