With a gun to my head, I would say INTP.

Edit: On second thought, I'm starting feel pretty split about the I/E.

ENTP. This thread hasn't changed my opinion either.

He's a snarky twat, and not blow your head off clever enough to be an ENTP.

ISTP. 'though introverted thinker sounds much too pretentious for him.

I saw some Dick Cavett interviews a little while back. Now there's a host I can fall for.

-How beautiful, this pale Endymion hour.
    -What are you talking about?
-Endymion, my dear. A beautiful youth possessed by the moon.
-Well, forget about him and get to bed.
    -Yes, my dear.

Letterman is an introvert. He's admitted to being one and being painfully shy. At least I read that somewhere.. I was a little surprised.

    ISTP or even INTP.

I will say he definitely does strike me as introverted. He's not the kind of guy who would strike up a conversation in the grocery store because he likes your t-shirt, which I've seen ENTPs do.

He also demonstrates great character for a person of any type at all.

Opinion. I think he is. He also makes a lot of those quotes you'll only see N's coming up with.

INTP seems about right to me.

And yet that asshole Leno gets more viewers. I guess likability is more important than substance to late night viewers.

It's not so much Leno as The Tonight Show. Leno's a funny guy, but the demographic they're going for *coughSJcough* isn't interested in biting, subtle humor.
