Who will you be voting for? It would be nice to hear what (if any) specific issues influenced your decision.

Neither, because I can't stand either one of them. I will probably hold my nose and vote for Bob Barr, and I will probably do it the same way I voted for Michael Badnarik in 2004: drunk.

No one seemed to notice or to care. I know they don't sell alcohol in the Philippines on Election Day, or, at least, they didn't during the Marcos era. I doubt it's officially illegal here. Perhaps some states have some laws on the books regarding it, but I don't think they'd stand a constitutional challenge. Causing a disturbance at a polling booth is definitely a crime, though, so mean or stumbling drunks should probably not try it. I am more of a gregarious drunk. I like to hold forth on politics when drinking, too. I got hammered with Alexander Cockburn a few months back, but we talked more about the '60s and foreign films.

Anyway I just decided I'm voting for McCain because in Obama's TV ad they showed a construction worker when talking about shipping jobs over seas. To those voting for Obama: this is silly because it's hard to buy a house that was made in china. |

Thanks for the links. It is a ton of info to go over! I don't find myself agreeing completely with either candidate, and some of the snapshot definitions of complex issues leave me uncertain. I lean towards McCain's position to reject partial birth abortions, but Obama's overall position on promoting sex education and contraceptives. My position is the earlier an unwanted pregnancy is dealt with the better. Both are limited in their support of gay marriage, which I support completely. The only limitation I support is in allowing specific religions to define marriage however they please in accordance with separation of church and state. McCain leaves it with the state to make a decision about teaching evolution. Once again, in the public school system I support a separation of church and state, but also support accreditation being given to parochial schools who might be given to teach Creationism. Obama's ratings with the NAACP and the ACLU are more encouraging than McCain's. Obama has an excellent image, but it doesn't leave me with much info about him as a person. I distrust McCain somewhat for aspects of his character in how he treated his ex-wife and the kind of material indulgence he thrives on personally. These impressions only scratch the surface, and I look forward to reading through more. I don't consider myself affiliated with any party in part because I find each inconsistent in values. There are certain aspects of both that appeal and repel me.
