Default Matt Welch on John McCain

Everyone who frequents the Political Forum probably knows by now that my favorite American magazine is Reason. Matt Welch, their Editor-in-Chief, has devoted many articles (and one full-length book) on debunking the "John McCain-as-maverick-reformer" mindset that a lot of the MSM has. Here is a link to his most recent article (a quick search on their site will provide several more):

McCain's Georgian Hyperbole: Exaggerating threats is a feature, not a bug, of McCainite neoconservatism, and reveals much about what kind of president he'd make. - Reason Magazine

Do we have any big McCain fans on here? Who hates him with pathological obsession? Care to compare/contrast his policies and persona with Obama's?

If only I could get that in bumper sticker format. And perhaps, instead of a smiley, it could be Calvin of Calvin & Hobbes.

So take care when the would-be commander in chief says "we are all Georgians" (a rhetorical flourish made goofy by the fact that not all Georgians are even Georgians).
Heh, I was thinking that same thing when I first heard about his speech.

When I think about the socialist democrats on offer, I go straight up nuts for McCain.

I think we could use a new economic vocabulary. Capitalism, Socialism and Communism are outdated and rooted in 19th century industrialism.

I'd much rather vote for inept "socialist" economic policies the Democrats support than the christofascist corpratism of the Republican party.

Matt Welch's work is partly why I see libertarianism starkly distinct from Reason. If isolationists insist that totalitarianism is spontaneous and unrelated, even in a technologically interconnected world, the apperception is happily theirs. A tendentious argument, typical for Welch.

I am not the biggest Matt Welch fan, either (I was pretty disappointed when he was named Editor-in-Chief earlier this year). However, I like that he has been outspoken in his disdain for McCain and the media's mythologization of him. The same thing is starting to happen with Obama. I just wish the LP had someone better than Bob Barr to throw out there.

I don't care for McCain for many reasons. Here are a few new ones.

I've learned to reject apotheosis, so we're in agreement on that. Are larger issues acceptable grist for that mill, though? That's where Welch loses me.
