The polygamist wives I saw did not mind that they were sharing.

Of course most any women would rather not have to share a husband... most polygamy takes place in areas where it's already a norm, so women are brought up into it and told that it is good.

I have no problem with polygamy being taboo.
Isn't that the point of legalizing it though? So that it is no longer taboo and that those who want to practice it would not have to feel that it is bad or not normal anymore?

with things like birth control and the fact that many families DON'T have kids I'd think that they whole reproductive element of marriage can probably be declared null and void for many...

... so when do I get the option of having a few husbands?

(actually- multiples of either spouse sounds like hell!)

Right. I can barely tolerate a date, moreless marriage to more than one dude.

Interesting that you should ask that. There have been polyandrous societies in the past but that was only because there was a severe shortage of females and in those cases, there is a higher probability of [male] homosexuality because the truth is (and please don't shot me for this) most women can barely handle one man's sex drive per day.

They'll say that, but were these wives brought up into a polygamist culture growing up?

I think you could create any arbitrary social norm, even if it involves bashing rocks against your head, and you will get people saying they don't mind it and enjoy it.

Yeah, I would rather it be illegal though. It's just not the kind of society that I would like to live in, even if it won't directly effect me (other than by all the women getting swept up disproportionately).

Also, polygamy tends to be mixed in with religious fundamentalism, and I would like the world to progress from that into a more secular and humanist future.

I always had the impression that women had the capacity to match mens' sex drive, but simply not the interest. And I specifically mean interest in having sex with those particular men.

What gave you that impression? Just curious.

I'll address this argument in a minute.

Yes that's been tried for the past 300 years now.

The ones I saw were not. This is why it particularly freaked me out.
