Grr!!! This statement is so wrong!

Obama is friends with a terrorist. Singular. Let's get it right!

The problem is, in certain places and cases, that is exactly what is going on. (I've seen the Howard Stern Harlem interviews video as well, though, so I know the opposite is also happening... and it's just as disgusting.)

People that won't vote for Obama because he is Muslim often mean they won't vote for him because he is black. The Muslim thing is just a more socially acceptable form of racism that many cling to. Of course, I'm not talking about anyone here... I first observed this during the primary in a small town north of Harrisburg, PA.

My rule is, if you can state specific reasons to dislike Obama (ideally, that McCain isn't guilty of as well), then I won't assume it. If someone has a general mistrust and vague fear of what Obama would do as president, then I begin to wonder.

Oh, come on, it's at least two. Everyone knows Oprah is a terrorist.

Please. No amount of logic, reason, or proof will convince most of these folks (including, apparently, you) that Obama's connection to Ayers is not close, even though that's what investigations have concluded. No amount of logic, reason, or proof will convince them that he's not even MUSLIM. Sarah Palin in particular--but John McCain too--is depending on people being afraid of "the other" in this campaign. Many people won't vote for him because he's "Muslim" or because he's "a terrorist" or because, some will be honest enough to say, "he's black."

There are also people who dislike him because they disagree with him, to be sure. Calling him a socialist is exaggeration, but it is at least more sensible than calling him a terrorist.

Edit: that youtube vid wasn't really the one I meant to post, but it'll work.
Edit 2: the second youtube vid is what i was looking for.

The socialist argument bothers me. McCain lost the right to use that argument with any real conviction when he supported the bailout package. In fact, if McCain had fought against it, I probably would have switched my vote. (Well, after some deep thought on if I could deal with Palin as VP. I can live with McCain, but she needs to be kept away from being President.)

It would be a lot better for Obama if he had no connection to Ayers at all. The guy is the very definition of a terrorist.

It would be better for sure, but that's not the case. However, that doesn't mean that Obama is a terrorist by extension, which is what the Republicans are banking on Americans believing because their strategy is to terrify everybody.

Isn't he more of the definition of an ex-terrorist?

What? You're serious? I had thought the Muslim reference was to make people uneasy because of a hasty paranoid mental-connection with Al-Qaeda, which has been floating around since September 2001. I didn't think people meant it as an excuse to be racist for something else. But more people have posted below this supposing the same thing. Do you guys really observe this?
