I think this is an ignorant claim. I won't go as far as to say racist, but why is it that if an African-American of note supports Obama they're only doing it because he's "black"? Are white people voting for Obama because he's black? Exercise the logic of your INTP brethren.

    I'm sure some are.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Of course, out of millions some will be or at least it will be part of their calculation. However, making a statistical claim is not the same as saying THIS white or black individual is voting for Obama because he's black. It presumes too much about something you cannot know.

Also, the claim that Powell is voting for Obama because he's black would be rather meaningless if applied to a white Republican.

I've seen people say that others vote for Obama simply because he's black, but I've never seen someone say that people vote for McCain simply because he's white.

I tend to figure that for every totally thoughtless voter who votes for Obama SOLELY because of his race, there is an equally thoughtless voter somewhere else who refuses to consider Obama SOLELY because of his race.

I have no doubt there will be some people who vote for McCain because he's white.

...or simply because Obama is black. Which is probably the case more often than Americans ought to be comfortable with.
