I like the landscape of the UK and Canad, but it's just too cold :/. Australia's warm, but I wonder how many forests they have >_>. I could always learn Japanese maybe. Or refresh my French.

Japan would also be great, though I think their economy will struggle quite a bit. Japanese brothel anyone? J/K

Sounds like a good idea to me. It's the kind of thing I would have thought of.

I wish more people, especially Obama supporters, would take the time to understand what role the Federal Reserve played in this financial crisis. I don't necessarily agree with everything in this short video (like the statement about European bankers owning the Fed), but it does give a brief overview of the problem.

One of the things that frightens me most about Obama is that he has stated that he wants to give the Federal Reserve more power. I heard him say this when I was watching CNN a few weeks ago. Most people don't understand the importance of this statement. They'll just continue to blame their opposing party.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Not going to weigh in on the rest, but on this point...

I strongly opposed Bush's SS plan because it had him (or Dick, more likely) choosing which stocks and bonds we could invest in.

Otherwise I agree with the principle. The original purpose of SS was so a stock market crash wouldn't wipe out retirement funds and leave gangs of old folks mugging people for pills. Since it is insufficient to the task anymore, market crash or no, I'd rather it just turn into a requirement for 401k plans.

Lateralus, I can't do Audio at work but I'll check that out later.

This is all about "socialism for big business, capitalism for everyone else." And it seems to me that both capitalism and socialism as "good ideas at least on paper" are destined to fail this way.

No, it's exploitation. It's theft under the guise of national security. Both parties are complicit, including both presidential candidates.

I actually don't disagree with you on this matter. But what I want to know is--what should we do? Do we let it all crash down?
