    Default Monocultural sabotage?

What if I told you monoculturalism was sabotage?

The development of some of the emergent economic powers of India and Asia was long impeded by mistaken nationalist and socialism in one country ideas which stressed autarky, closed systems, protectionist markets etc.

Now populists within the west are reviving similar ideas or at least pandering to them because they know they are easy vote winners, the argument can not be made on economic basis because the evidence is not there for it paying any dividends, so its made instead on the basis of culture, which can be a synonym for ethno-nationalist ideas or ideals too.

So thoughts? Are you prepared to choose poverty if it supports the monoculture of your choice? Can there be globalisation without multiculturalism?

I see monoculturalism and protectionism as different things. I honestly don't see what's bad about protectionism. Doesn't the EU do it all the time?

I think monoculturalism is stupid, though. I'm going out to get some Korean. ( I want my taco trucks on every corner. )
This is not going to go the way you think....

I think that monoculturalism is stupid, multiculturalism simply is a fact.

Protectionism of a sort is practiced by every single successful state in existence and, naturally enough, by federations or confederations such as the EU, although I think immigration is being used as something to inspire protectionism of the autarky and closed borders variety which is an extremely bad idea, since no one has come out as out and out racist about immigration yet its generally the threat of invading alien cultures which is the threat. Hence the connection between the two.

Some of the craziness I've heard associated with the "new threat" of immigration the average person is yet to talk about, its got its precident in the shape of how vagrancy was considered a huge problem by parishes, which had a variety of poor relief measures, in the pre-modern world, prior to the creation of singular national welfare states with pensions (introduced by conservatives for anyone who is interested) which was a uniform across the nation idea, the diverse forms of relief and the movement it gave rise to was seem as something which should lend pressure to the principle of less eligibility and a uniform refusal of relief of any description or sort. Combined with Pastor Malthus' terror tracts about how the poor were becoming simply too multitudinous, breeding like rabbits they was, and you have the idea of "perishers" or people who should simply be "let starve" (tried out to full effect with the Irish famine).

There's radicals, particularly libertarian ones, who see the present migrations and population flight as history repeating itself and hope that it will lead to experiments in the wholesale junking of public health, education and welfare states, I mean, they wont want to take flight to your country if its basically the same as the one they are leaving right? Equally why even have a police service or prisons as public services to deal with the resultant chaos? Some of those people only want to take flight to a safe haven without the rampant crime and local war lords, so why bother with that? Its only incentivising them to travel otherwise, right?

The only alternative will be some sort of supranational development or quasi-imperial normalisation of foreign wars and interventionism, ie state building, which its been proven no nation wants to take on like it once did. So the choices being barbarism or empire its not that great for either a progressive or even your average uninterested individual.
