Jack, I suspect you may be right. I don't think there's enough disillusionment in the world to counteract the media and the ruling class at this point.

Trying to change that with a vote boycott is stupid. You'd have better luck fixing this problem by pressuring legislators, which would still be a very uphill battle. But the point here is that the very mechanics of our election system right now make a third party winner unlikely. The rules of the election itself need to be changed for that. Having a preferential ballot would be a good example of a change that aids lesser parties.

Thank you, Magic, for demonstrating a fundamental grasp of the situation.

Magic, why didn't you respond to my last post ? We were having fun.

Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks you're less than formidable.
The rat even found you a new avatar.

If it's so obvious, don't beg for the obvious answers. We all know then, that an election boycott is likely to fail and wouldn't really get to the bottom of things if it actually succeeded. If that's clear, I'd like to point out that I could still vote for Obama, and continue to contrive ways to change this situation. I can do both. I don't know how to make it any clearer that this is not an either/or situation, which is why I might as well vote.

Correct is often equated with annoying, I suppose that's true.

It's why the phrase "the truth hurts" comes into a lot of literature and TV.

Jack's right. The media does control us.

If politician says that you should vote, even if only to choose the lesser of two evils, then it's because he thinks that you think that he is the lesser evil.

By not voting you are telling politicians that there is a gap in the market, and that they'll have to offer something new if they want the votes. on the other hand, if you vote for them anyway, then what incentive does they have to change?
A criticism that can be brought against everything ought not to be brought against anything.
