I know that I am harsh but I am saying this as an insight or friendly advice.

In general, foreign intellectuals like to believe they know far more about America than they actually do, and Americans don't even bother to learn about other countries.

No, the average American knows more about the United States than does the average foreign intellectual. That is to say: slightly more than "not much at all."

ehh, you ever see those videos where they ask people on the street about basic American trivia?

A lot of people can't even name the vice president.

What do you consider an average foreign intellectual to be?

I really don't want to be rude but I will be.

Personally I know people who were in USA and said to me that this is a nation that has some serious problems with basic knowledge.

ESTP with nothing stronger then high school included.

Many people in USA are not dumb at all they simply don't have information.
