    Default Sado-Masochism and Torture

The purpose of torture is torture.

And the population at large needs to be primed to accept torture.

And it is primed to accept torture by the association of sexuality and pain.

In other words the population is primed by sado-masochism.

I saw a movie the other night called, "Taken". It is a sado-masochistic movie distributed to the whole population. And there are other movies as well.

This is effective as we have members here who justify, celebrate and valourise sado-masochism.

    Priming us to accept torture.

And I think it was George Orwell who said, "the purpose of torture is torture".

I think BDSM is just a little different than applying jumper cables to a guy's nuts.

    So does Victor.

What does it mean, that pleasure is derived?
Tragic for both victim and assailant.

And why is it that non-practitioners are so intimately familiar with such aggression?
Aggression is probably the misnomer here - I use it to characterize shocking mistreatment.

Dehumanization is presently neither aggressive nor shocking.

    This is the real tragedy.

Violence is inherent in the struggle for life. Even on the microscopic level. Why invite more when life is already a pitched battle?

It's easy to destroy. Hard to build up, to create, to love, to be vulnerable. It's easy to harm - that's the mass appeal. No effort at all.

Pain is meant to shield us from harm. To gain pleasure from harm is to be dehumanized, because the body is meant to be cared for instinctively, as one would a child. Not even animals enjoy pain.

It's popular to be one's own deity.

I think I started this thread because of a personal emotional problem in that I was reading about the extent of torture in the world and I was outraged.

I immediately thought of deleting the post the moment I made it - but generally I don't believe in deleting - perhaps it is best to live with one's mistakes.

However I do agree with George Orwell, a hero of mine, who said, "the purpose of torture is torture", meaning that torture serves no political or military purpose but is the raw expression of complete power of one person over another.

And this is the pleasure that is found in sado-masochism - the pleasure of power over another person, even if voluntary.

And so this is the connection of sado-masochism to torture - and that connection is simply power.

But it is sensible to remember sado-masochism is a psycho-sexual perversion and torture is a crime against humanity.

However in our war against Islamic terrorism we have practised torture ordered from the highest levels of command.

So I think we should say to our elected representatives that we want to win the war against Islamic terrorism but we won't tolerate torture.

And I think we should also say that sado-masochism is a psycho-sexual perversion that predisposes a people to accept torture.

But this is a terrible topic and terrible to think about.
