I think that is how it would have gone for Obama had he failed the first time. But perhaps you are right.
I don't see him as a dark horse. He doesn't have the evangelical appeal of Huckabee. He doesn't have the libertarian support of Paul. He certainly isn't as beloved by the establishment as Bush. He's everybody's second choice... well except for moderates. It's to his advantage to gain some seniority in the primaries and the next time around he can use his Harvard connections and his wife's Goldman Sachs connections to become the next in line from the view of the establishment and big money donors.

edit: I guess what I should say is that he may be the dark horse this time around, but his connections make it possible for him to be the establishment choice down the road.

If that is the case, it seems I got the wrong impression from what I heard and read about him. To me, he seemed to be one of the Santorum sort, with the added advantage of a handsome curriculum vitae.

Things offset and actually render Cruz quite a lot worse than Santorum. Cruz has caused measurable tangible harm in the Senate and it has gained a ton of negative press against him because of it. There really isn't any talking out of it either, nor hiding it. Santorum on the other hand, blew a lot of smoke that suggested he'd become quite harmful and dangerous, but didn't really spearhead or lead anything too crazy that garnered public attention. Cruz might have better "credentials" (if you can honestly call them that), but because of what he has actually done is of more prime importance, it sinks him a lot further.

The more the merrier. Cruz will drop out once Governor Walker gains a commanding lead in the primaries, but until then, he'll do a great job beating up on Hillary/Warren so that Walker won't have to get his hands dirty. The way I see it: a dozen people bashing Hillary from all angles > 3 or 4 people beating the Hillary pinata.

I got sick at the idea of Walker becoming the nominee when I learned that he was one of those Student Government losers that wore a suit to school everyday and cared 10x more about student government than classes.

The plot thickens: Ted Cruz has signed up for Obamacare. This ought to be interesting.

I'm not really interested in this from a hypocrisy/ lack thereof standpoint. I just think he's too much of an opportunist to let this go unnoticed, so it should be interesting what becomes of it.
