Legalizing drugs now illegal is simply a loophole to redistribute wealth away from those that are stupid enough to do them in the first place. And the faster, the better.
Or you can say "free adults have the right to put whatever they want into their own bodies" and let them reap the consequences. I've DONE all those substances, and the only thing being illegal made them was dirty and expensive.

I agree with Ilyak1986... just legalizing marijuana, and then taxing it, would bring in a massive amount of funds to the government which could be redistributed for healthcare and education. As an avid drug user myself, I would still be against leaving drugs untaxed... in that case, I could demand that my purchases of clothing and food remain untaxed, but that's not the case, and drug use is a luxury, not a necessity.

Yes, but for my own sake, I'm not sure I want to see a Heroin Depot in driving distance.

Many people feel similarly about peep show booths and vendors hawking pornography but they haven't made them illegal!

...quite different from heroin. Remeber China's problems with opium? Do you want to see that 10x in the US?

Sure... of course... but most people who do heroin stick themselves and chill out in their cribs or the crackhouse they score from. I've never seen a heroin addict running around in public and harassing people, even by the mere fact of his or her presence. And if there were a heroin depot, there'd probably be some lounges where they could get their fix, like in Amsterdam. They keep to themselves and we keep to ourselves (I'm not personally a fan of heroin).

Metamphetamines are a different matter altogether.

Sure, they have the right to put it in their bodies, but I have the right not to smell it/see it/otherwise perceive it, hence the reason for the taxes.

If a person three doors down from me is an avid smoker and makes his house stink up, that lowers the price for mine. And I can come up with many more examples.

Come on, please tell me that you've some semblance of the stuff they teach in eco 101 about positive and network externalities, or I'm done addressing you.

Alcohol is legal so why isn't everyone stumbling around drunk all the time?

It would be a lot different if access to heroin was just a matter of walking to your corner store. It would be an epidemic greater to the one in China, heroin is much stronger than the opium they had.

Ultimate bliss for cheap and easily accessible? A nation of heroin junkies would be terrible.

Because they have varying degrees of reason.
