I am assuming you are fearful of some scenario where this is done to humans instead of cockroaches?

No, I'm scared of an army of cyborg cockroaches covering the earth.....I have something of a phobia about cockroaches, and thought to make a joke about the ways this science could go horribly wrong in movies. I didn't expect anyone to take it seriously.

    Interesting last paragraph:
Sethu Vijayakumar, director of the Institute of Perception, Action and Behaviour at the University of Edinburgh, has reservations about the work though. “As much as the technology is interesting, there are a lot of ethical issues before we go down that line, even with cockroaches. Whenever you interface with another biological system, you have to look at whether the means justifies the ends. It’s something we have to debate,” he said.
So we're allowed to kill cockroaches with over-the-counter death-dealing machines and chemicals, but hooking them up to little backpacks and sending them roving into a construction pipe to control their direction for some actual purpose might be off-limits.

(Or imagine backpacks full of potent radiating elements that can be steered into an enemy bunker. The science of that is probably dubious, but still... kind of takes things to the next level, humanity always figures out a way to use things as a weapon.)

“Pleasure to me is wonder—the unexplored, the unexpected, the thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability. To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft

Robot wasps... I have a near-phobia of anything with a stinger. If someone's controlling it, using it as a weapon, that's... oh god, I don't have words to describe that terror. I'd die of fear before that thing got anywhere close to me.

There was a movie with these robot spiders in it which had poison stingers in it and had the guy would of Three Men and A Baby and Blue Bloods in it once, scared the life out of me but it was probably more my imagination seeing it as a kid than the movie itself.

Heh. I know its irrational, but I would STILL be more terrified of the cockroaches.

but I can imagine someone has already thought of doing this to those humungous Tokyo wasps....

The the roaches were enemies of the wasps I'd be their friend.

That movie about the guy with the apartment full of talking roaches would be a nightmare for you LTR.
