I was happy to see Germany show some balls. I wish more countries would:

Yeah that was good. Funny and well said.

At first, I was like, Robert Crumb was a TypoC member?? As his illustration style is almost identical.

Well let's be positive, attacks like these can only help the nationalist movements in Europe.

Satire is a better tool to make someone feel insecure than throwing crap at someone. Also attacking insecurities is better than insulting someone.

This magazine was throwing crap at Mohomed. They aren't even funny. I've seen plenty of cartoons that a much better at making a point that strikes plenty of codes than these. Or maybe I am missing the jokes. In my defence most of them are in French, a language I can't understand.

However, what they were doing was quite brave and I applaud that.

    My dear Mole,

While I do not strictly endorse your interpretation (modern Islamism seems to look more like a classic totalitarianism rather than a religion; in Morocco for instance, you can now read articles like this that openly condemn modern Islam, and believe me, in these countries, this attitude is brand new and totally unexpected -> http://www.medias24.com/INTERNATIONA...n-de-paix.html ), I must agree with the possible link you are making between National-Socialism and the ideology spread by political entities like Daesh (ISIL).

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that you can master French fluently, but the most interesting and educated point of view I've heard and read so far comes from Boris Cyrulnik [ Boris Cyrulnik - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ], a famed French Neuropsychiatrist. I post it nonetheless with the hope you could translate it or make it translated, it's worth the task:

If you want a translation or an explanation, please feel free to post some of these cartoons.
But keep in mind that France is one of the most secular state and society in the world, and that our right to blasphemy is paradoxically one of our most sacred ones, hence the incredible reaction here.

Charlie Hebdo was known here for its "crude and provocative" style, but nonetheless, I must admit my own kind of humor can be sometimes very close to theirs.
And there are even worst extracts within the French TV channels but it makes me laugh. You wouldn't believe it how offensive we French can be when it comes to religions, wherever they originate.

For instance when pope John-Paul II died, there were some local reactions that could have caused an immediate heart attack to all our Catholic bigots here...

Anyway, in France we have a saying:

Is it possible to laugh of absolutely ANYTHING?

The answer is yes, but not with Anybody.

    ------

Now, for the people who might be wondering what happened in Paris during the 7/01, I wasn't very far away when I heard the gun shots. Just two blocks away, and then shortly afterwards the ambulances and the police too.

One the persons who were killed this fateful day (Georges Wolinski) was the father of somebody I knew.
Jean Cabut was a friend of my own boss; he even drew him a few times when they had dinner together.

So one way or the other, we all related to them. Everybody in France had heard of them and could relate (whether we would agree with the satirical content of their cartoons or not), hence the emotion.

Tomorrow, I will march within the huge anonymous crowd in Paris that will protest against the people who tried to literally kill our freedom of speech.

It's interesting to read how my country looks from a Fascist perspective like yours.

But no, it's not that simple, and believe it or not, I know several of these "no-go" zones and worst, I've worked there and survived.
Hey... amongst my friends, some have even confessed to me they might be... Muslims... Incredible, isn't it ?

Obviously, this guy has never understood or really opened a Charlie Hebdo magazine.

The goal of satire is not to draw classic and predictable pompous sanctimonious bullshit like what he's doing all the time. I know Joe Sacco is a talented cartoonist, but he seems to be missing the point of being irreverent just for the sake of it just like a true Anarchist would do.
