    I love it when the p.c. patrol tries to out-p.c. each other

    People from the south have a way of making everything seem like an insult if they want it to, even if they're complimenting you.

    That's true but I can't see it happening in the NHL. It's a far more internationally flavoured league and sport than American football and less ridiculous PC crap goes on in it.

    I don't have much first hand experience with the use of the term myself. The few time I've seen people us it was to insult or mock an American.
    The same goes for canuck, which is just a blanket term associated with some stereotype.

    Yank = guns, bang bang, yeeha, and baseball lol
    Canuck= hockey

    If I moved to the South, I would probably sign things as "your friendly, neighborhood Yankee", just to be that way.
    I've been called a criminal, a terrorist, and a threat to the known universe. But everything you were told is a lie. The truth is, they've taken our freedom, our home, and our future. The time has come for all humanity to take a stand...

    You really do not have to be very PC to discuss point of views that you don't personally share.

    I personally find the term canuck Yankee ridiculous and far from insulting, but that does not mean it should dibilitate my ability to look at the situation outside of myself, and how this specific discussion(as silly as it is) can have a result that most people in this thread don't seem to expect.

    Anything can be derogatory to the right person. That's not being PC.

    Dunno, I've been called a Yank by people from Western Europe but in the south, they usually take a step back and tell me I talk funny when they acknowledge it all. You are right about most things sounding like an insult though. I blame much of that on the sing song tone of voice I've often encountered, not any real intended insult.
