But I can imagine it is like an American being called a Yank.
Annnnd I didn't say it did. The qualifier was, "i mean on the level as the n word in the united states?" And the answer is still, no. But yes, I would say if someone was American and referring snidely to Canadians as "Canucks" the intention would be interpreted as being more insulting, sure. Similar to Canadians calling Americans "Yanks" when they intend it to be an insult.

Personally, I've never been offended by the term "canuck". Now, canucklehead, that's a whole different story!

please stop attempting to tell a proud, strong Canadian man what words he is allowed to be offended by. you haven't gone through the struggles the Canadian people have experienced!

@RobertCalifornia can take Chickpea's hand and leave the dark fortress he has built to protect himself from the hardship and hate that him and his people have had to endure!

That word is our word. We can say it among ourselves; others saying it to or about us is rude.

Is "Yank" supposed to be an insult? I just thought it was a slangy term for an American. If it has any sort of pejorative meaning, I'm unaware of it.

That is not inconceivable. There have been many calls in the US to rename sports teams that use similar designations related to Native American groups.

As a longtime American who identifies strongly with the New England region, I have no objection to being called Yank, Yankee, New England Yankee, etc. There is even a magazine called "Yankee", devoted to all things New England. On the other hand, I started off in Canada and part of my family is from there. None of us have ever objected to Canuck either. Sure, you can use either term in an insulting way, but someone who does is going to find a way to insult you somehow.
I've been called a criminal, a terrorist, and a threat to the known universe. But everything you were told is a lie. The truth is, they've taken our freedom, our home, and our future. The time has come for all humanity to take a stand...
