    Default Seattle's Garbage Police

Garbage Police are the Seattle Trash Collectors

Seattle's liberal leadership has an environmental goal to attain. And they will attain it by any means.

The goal is a merely static one: to recycle 60% of all of Seattle's garbage by the year 2015.

Seattle has thus far achieved 56% of this goal.
    56% is not GOOD ENOUGH!

Therefore, Seattle's liberal drones have decided to make policemen out of their government garbagemen and women. Each garbage policewoman or man is to inspect the garbage they collect for non-recyclables (potato peelings and what-not). If more than 10% of your garbage is determined to consist of non-recyclables, then your next garbage bill will reflect a fine of $1.

You may say that $1 is not much of a fine. (Is the fine enhanced to $2 if the crime occurs in a construction zone?) But that fine is only the beginning for Seattle's liberal government garbage police force. Such fees, fines, and taxes are eventually raised to the point that they become a financial stranglehold. And that's the goal of all liberal government: to financially strangle the plebeians into compliance. Consider, for example, Obamacare, with its plan to raise the fine ("penalty") for non-compliance (those who "opt out") to $695 in the year 2016.

At one time we were simply recycling our recyclables. It seemed like a good idea, although we now know that recycling actually consumes more natural resources than it produces. But now, thanks to "Progressivist" thinking, it's necessary to force ourselves to utilize as many recyclables as possible in order to conform to some numb-nut liberal's "Progressive" regulations on garbage. This is a great deal for the recycling industry, although the Earth that the Progressivists intend to conserve continues to suffer worse at their benevolent hands. But this doesn't matter. The Progressivist liberal mobs "feel good" about themselves, their power-base grows, and their cronies in the recycling industry continue to get richer. Everybody benefits. Right?

At least, everybody who counts to the liberal Progressivist establishment.

    I endorse this.

It does not appear to pose a significant threat to citizens of Seattle.

Environmental catastrophe is one of the biggest threats facing civilization and it warrants significant response.

As for you, your facts are all wrong and you're a conspiracy theorist. That thing about recycling costing more than it saves is half wrong and half missing the point, and your idea that a 1$ dollar charge for insufficiently recycling is the first step toward financial domination of the people is a ridiculously paranoid leap of thinking.

Even if you're right, this regulation requires people to use more recyclables, not simply to recycle what they use. This is a tactic used by evil Big Business, in this case, the recycling business. Follow the money trail.

I prefer incentives for behavior rather than punishment. If they wanted more recycling, they should just pay people more money to recycle. Here in California, we have people crossing state lines to recycle because it's profitable to do so. Also, recycling paper is a stupid idea that pollutes many billions gallons of water; don't do it.
