@Woaden, you have been called upon.

I only know that they have no McDonald's in Singapore.

We do have McDonald's littered all over Singapore.

As for Singapore, while it is relatively safe, the majority of the murders come from either family or neighbors. Usually family murders are a result of drunk/drugged people lashing out at their elderly parents. There aren't a lot of people killing their kids, but once in a while a story like this pops up. Either that or we have underage parents abandoning their babies in a trash can.

Aside from that, there's also a lot of cases where maids are abused by their employer, and the maid cracks and goes on a raging rampage on the employer.

Edit: Just earlier this year, a young man of age was called to serve the army. He had schizophrenia, and was placed in the appropriate platoon (I don't know how else to describe this). His commanding officer thought schizophrenia was a type of eating disorder (or something like that) and the man committed suicide. The commanding officer got slammed by the public.

Like others, I don't see enough details to judge the situation. So the only thing I can say is that 'murder is bad.'

And since that thing by itself is boring, I also threw in a joke that 'murder is bad' is an unpopular opinion but that needs to be vocalized.

However, this article on the story has an excellent way to capture reader opinions.

Now that would make a hell of a story.

Suppose the worst case scenario and that in the mothers eyes this was somehow an act of compassion. Then I don't think such a mother would come up with 'shoving the boy out of a 9th story window' as a valid means of ended his life.

    Tragic indeed.

If the evidence points at her being behind it she should be tried to the full extent of the law.
"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... Some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age. Let's make a non-issue into an issue. Maybe get some actual beef in here.

There are debates surrounding the phenomenon of mothers murdering kids who have autism. It sparks up about once a year or so.

If A Parent Murders An Autistic Child, Who Is To Blame?
It’s become typical, again and again, for parents who murder their autistic children to get some kind of a “pass” from the commentariat and the news media because, well, autism is “such a challenge.” That’s in part because some autism organizations and members of the news media have successfully presented autism as a “monster” and a “ kidnapper” instead of as the developmental condition that it is. So in the public mind, an allegedly overwhelmed mother with “ no supports” should certainly be pitied and not judged harshly for killing the “monster.”

No other condition draws this kind of judgment or leads people to blame the condition, the murdered, and everyone except the murderer for killing her own child [ETA: although the murder of people with disabilities in general, especially people requiring extensive care, does frequently draw that kind of sympathy; also, a commenter has brought cerebral palsy to my attention as another example]. If Alex had had Down syndrome, cancer, schizophrenia, ADHD, or a traumatic brain injury, no one would be giving his mother a pity pass for having brutally taken his life, overwhelmed by his needs.
See also: autism as a 'monster' and a 'kidnapper.'
    The Monster Inside My Son
For years I thought of his autism as beautiful and mysterious. But when he turned unspeakably violent, I had to question everything I knew.
Kidnapped by Autism: Making Noise about “Ransom Notes”
This campaign, which is expecting over 700 million impressions over the next four months, is highly inaccurate and spreads classic stereotypes against individuals with disabilities. There are a number of problems with the advertising campaign:

    * The ads suggest that our true selves have been “kidnapped” by terrible “diseases” and that we need urgent treatment to become normal again. This “stolen child” stereotype has been associated with horrible abuses against individuals with disabilities, ranging from social cruelty to beating, electric shock and even murder.

    * The ads do not inspire parents to bring struggling children to professionals for diagnosis and appropriate treatment but instead just make parents terrified that their children are doomed and destined to have horrible, sad lives.

    * The ads convey an incomplete and inaccurate picture of the diagnoses they purport to represent; they fail to show the many strengths and abilities of the individuals with those diagnoses. They fail to show the opportunities for support, education and resources that the NYU Child Study Center should be offering to parents and individuals with disabilities.
