Default Atheists are banned form public office in 7 U.S. states

Old news really, but all these atheist/atheism threads of late got me going :P Thought I'd share.

The states are: Arkansas, Maryland, Texas, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee. Notice that 6 of these 7 states are a part of "The South".

Some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age. Really? I need to move. Typical that I live in the one northern state like that.

    Edit:

Actually, the wording is kind of wierd.

“No person who acknowledges the being of a God and a future state of rewards and punishments shall, on account of his religious sentiments, be disqualified to hold any office or place of trust or profit under this Commonwealth.”
It only says that people who believe in God won't be disqualified because they believe in God. Which seems like meaningless language intended to curry political favor than actual legislation. That's probably because it is exactly what it was.
[Trump's] rhetoric is not an abuse of power. In the same way that it's also not against the law to do a backflip off of the roof of your house onto your concrete driveway. It's just mind-numbingly stupid and, to say the least, counterproductive. - Bush did 9-11

This is not going to go the way you think....

Legalese makes my head hurt sometimes.
