Default Nationalism (and the trouble with humanity in general)

I know that this borders to pathetic.

As you surely know there was about 70 years since WWII and there is now again an ongoing nationalism growing in all over Europe.

Moreover, with an ever increasing world population the struggle for resources is becoming more and more obvious.

A large population of Austria, right in the middle of Europe, again craves for "lebensraum" - they are scared and they want to protect themselves. They now feel what others did before them, but the tables have turned in a sense:

“I am thrice homeless, as a native of Bohemia in Austria, as an Austrian among Germans, and as a Jew throughout the world. Everywhere an intruder, never welcomed.” Gustav Mahler (1860-1911).

What is this dichotomy in each and every one of us?

China has used birth control for decades, which in itself is a responsible thing to do, but we all also know how freedom of speech at the same time has gone down the drain in this and other attempts to control the population.

How do we solve this in a constructive and humane way, not only for humanity but for all forms of life?

Is is so easy to destroy and so time-consuming to build up.

And the second law of thermodynamics (entropy, disorder, must increse for any closed system) is against us.

I read about rough sex such as strangulation and rapist/victim role play in other threads, and I have no objections to that as such, if there is a consensus between two (or more) adult persons. But I have also seen films such as The Hostel and Salo, and frankly, it scares the hell out of me.
Is this what awaits us and our children?

I don't know where I am going with this, I guess I just need some positive outlook on things and hope.
    Such as this:

First impression might be that it is just wrong, so wrong, but I think we all know that it is just natural. What else could it be?

And my heart hurts so bad and I almost cry when I think of this picture - it has etched itself into my mind:

What if it was your son?

Comments, ideas, and expansions on the subject? What do we do?

How do we minimise suffering and maximise "happiness"?
We are all so occupied with our own little personal problems (me included) that we don't see the elephant in the room

Well, when we focus on our own happiness, do we still see the elephant in the room?
