I guess I would have an easier time calling myself Libertarian if those espousing libertarian politics actually adhered to libertarian philosophy.

I am certainly libertarian in outlook. I believe that it is immoral to initiate force or fraud against another human being under any circumstances. (the key word here of course being "initiate"). That would exclude any leftist oriented politics (as these are based on theft and initiated force). It would also exclude what is commonly understood definition of "conservative" (as this too is predicated on theft and initiated force).

Libertarianism IS the non-aggression principle. Unfortunately political libertarians (while at least well-intentioned) acquiesce to the notion that government is a necessary evil. I submit that there is no such thing as a necessary evil.

A true libertarian (one who actually recognizes the legitimacy of the non-aggression principle) is by necessity an anarchist.

And unfortunately most self-described anarchists don't know what the word really means either.

I hold simular views, as I share a generally libertarian outlook. I found that an insightful post, though some of the finer points are debatable.
I believe people are best left alone, as I find it immoral to push folks around who aren't hurting anybody against their will and I also notice most authoritarian regimes in history have been failures, ex. USSR.

So, yes, I would be an anarcho-capitalist if I didn't see a need for a basic set of laws for the nation to garentee freedom (you are free to swing your arm, but don't punch Bob, ect.).

    Interesting.

Why don't you tell me a little about what your ideal world would be?

I'd also be interested in understanding (in something other than vague invective) what your specific criticism of libertarianism is.

Libertarians describe their political position as advocacy of the non-aggression principle. The belief that the initiation of force or fraud ought be prohibited by state, but that otherwise peaceful men should be able to determine the course of their own lives without coercion.

What specifically do you object to about this advocacy?

And what would you advocate in its place?

And Yuval Levin, Ramesh Ponnuru and James Pethokoukis wipe the Floor with Paul Krugman, Ezra Klein and Brian Beutler eight days a week.

I'll take a wild guess and say that the folks participating in this thread know of one (Krugman) and mayyyyyybe two (Klein) of the writers mentioned above.
