I'm kind of quibbling, certain aspects of me really hate the use of the word 'identify' in this question. I see my Fi not allowing myself to be a Liberal, I can affiliate with them on issues, but I can only be myself. But this may not be Fi, I'm a very special rainbow on many other psychological fronts.

A functioning liberal democracy like ours avoids both the tyranny of the elite and the tyranny of the majority by the limitation of power.

I am surprised that so many here don't know the theory or practice of liberal democracy.

Liberal democracy is under attack in many parts of the world, and if we are to defend our heritage, we need to know what it is, why we have it, where it came from, and how it works.

I am surprised that so many Americans are apolitical.

To be apolitical seems to be a religious belief that politics is evil, and that by avoiding evil, by being apolitical, we will be saved.

I'm not. Apathy is quite common, dare I say the majority (over 50%), except for Presidential elections.

Varied reasons/factors but chief among them is our Electoral College system.

Your vote in the primary still matters even if the nominee from your party doesn't win your state.

One interesting proposal I've heard is to change the Electoral College to be counted by congressional district (worth 1 point each) instead of by state.

I advocate that. It also means dropping the two for the senators.

Are we talking political spectrum or parties? I'm gonna assume the former, because screw the latter.

More radically centrist. That is, the kind that's not simply apathetic, but that works toward centrism. (Though I have no qualms against those who are centrist out of apathy.)

At gunpoint, Liberal. But not modern liberalism in particular.

I'm guessing you mean more like classical liberalism, as opposed to the newfangled leftism/progressivism/democratic socialism stuff.
