Default Ugandan Minister of Ethics says, "Men raping girls is natural."

    http://www.patheos.com/blogs/progres...ls-is-natural/

Is this just another "cultural distinction" that we should be "sensitive" and "tolerant" about?

If he immigrated to the US, should we allow him to rape if they're his sincerely held religious beliefs? I mean, if the US government got in the way of that, it would be encroaching on his religious freedom.
"We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they're really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because "strength of belief" is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. As soon as you are proud of a belief, as soon as you think it adds something to who you are, then you've made it a part of your ego."

Religious practice isn't above the laws of the land. My point had to do with moral condemnation, not so much with legal action. So much practice that was considered horrifically evil 50 year ago is now widely accepted.

The irrational homophobia of Lokodo and other Ugandans can be directly traced back to the influence of Christian missionaries infecting generations of Ugandans with the most obnoxious and despicable religious bigotry, hatred and misinformation.
    Enough said.

If you're talking about acceptance of homosexuality, sure. It was considered immoral by the majority in the past, but the people who find it immoral today are a dwindling minority.

If you're talking about rape...what? Where do you see people saying Uganda should get a pass? I don't see that in the article. It looks like you're building a strawman here.

What precisely are the duties of a minster of ethics?

    Nothing new for this guy.

    http://www.independent.co.ug/intervi...ty-pornography

In the recent past, we have had quite a number of cases of children being raped and sometimes murdered, the prominent one being that of 9-year old Nisha but we have not had a strong response from your ministry, what do you have to say about this?

We strongly condemn rape, incest, defilement, child sacrifice and any kind of violence. So if someone doesn’t want to acknowledge this, then they should help me. As a directorate, we have visited over 55 districts building capacity and sensitising people on moral values and principals

Don’t you think that the threats posed by things like child trafficking and child sex abuse deserve more attention than the controversial Bills that you are coming up with?

The Bills are part of the bigger agenda. How do we implement our mandate if we do not put up laws? For example we want to ban homosexuality and the way to do it is to come up with laws, sooner or later homosexuality will be unacceptable in this country, and whoever misbehaves will face the courts of laws, not me going to chase them with police.

What strawman do you speak of? Whether or not Americans should accept Ugandan cultural mores because of multi-culturalism?
