The candidates and their political dream teams will conjure up whatever platforms they think will gain the voting base needed to win the election.
Once elected the pledges of the platform that won the votes needed to win the election will largely be forgotten, or simply gratuitously fulfilled.
The successsful candidate will pass public policy in a manner that creates potential for egregious profits for the special interests that funded the new President during their election.
The egregious profits will be generated by a variety of methods including simple control frauds, minimal enforcement of laws/policies that affect the business activities of the special interests favored by the new regime, and lack of prosecution + pardons (in exchange for favors in kind) for those commiting the most significant and costly cataclysms.
In reality the most powerful special interests are funding both parties to the degree necessary for their agendas to be realized, regardless of who wins the election.
So, get ready for another meaningless popularity contest and negative ad-campaign flurry that will infect your eyes and ears for asa long as you let it.

Or Asian, that would be fun too.
I'd say Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal and/or South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.

There is abundant evidence that the occupant of the White House has a tremendous influence on the economy, so it's not just a meaningless popularity contest. Some presidents like Hoover, FDR, LBJ, Nixon, Carter, and Obama manage to screw up the economy and increase the level of poverty, dependence, and misery while others like Coolidge and Reagan enact policies that promote growth, prosperity, and self-reliance.

Because I'm not blessed with your ability to ignore the bigger picture when it doesn't suit my argument. What you're saying is akin to catching Attila the Hun petting a dog and asserting he's a swell guy.

You are focusing only on the LAST SENTENCE of my reply, and then puffing right-wing smoke at the masses. Poor form.

Taking part of the final sentence of my reply completely out of context and interweaving it with high-level examples of economic prosperity during historical Presidential administrations does not in any way substantiate what proportion of the Commander in Chief's role is with regard to determining the success or failure of the U.S. economy. You know damn well that corporate America, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, members of the House and Senate, and other influential members of the power elite (both at home and abroad) ALL have a say and a part in deciding how the U.S. economy will perform, at what rate, and for what duration. Part of the U.S. economy's performance is indeed the focus or pre and post Presidential policy - but not nearly as significant a part as it used to be, and more subject than ever before to X-factors that not even the most brilliant subject matter experts can protect us from.

But don't worry - when things go wrong in the future, and they will, the fear of the potential fallout (as prophecized by the writers of the policies and laws that caused it all to happen) will be used to cause hysterical fear throughout the masses, and in the midst of that confusion the new generation of public policy abominations will be passed into law, and funded by you, our children, and several generations to come - all for the immediate benefit of a select few. And so all the bullshit that you seem to comfortable with will perpetuate, so you should be just fine watching it over and over again, and giving it your stamp of approval.

I wonder who you voted for in the last 5 elections?
    Boring.

Nicely stated. I doubt Hilary has given Bill much action for quite some time; I'm pretty sure she has alot of options as to who she wants to get her off, how, and when. Just sayin'.
