God is equally happy with liberal democracy, a bourgeois republic, a dictatorship, a totalitarian State, an oligarchy, and institutional slavery.

God had nothing to do with freedom and equality, while the European Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th centuries had everything to do with freedom and equality.

And good heavens, your right to bear arms is a perversion of the Constitution of the United States of America. We do not share that perversion, and get sick and tired of being told we have the right to bear arms by a foreign power.

I think it's related to our misogynist patriarchy.
Of course all this is true but omits the paranoia that drives your gun culture, and completely omits that selling guns is your business, and omits how evangelically you are in spreading your religion of the gun.

We create our inanimate objects then our inanimate objects create us.

So ask yourself, what has the gun made of your country?

Is this the kind of country you want your children to live in, where kindergarten teachers are armed and trained to engage in a firefight in the classroom?

Liberal democracy abhors violence. Liberal democracy cannot tolerate violence.

Liberal democracy cannot tolerate the violence of the gun, nor the violence of terrorism.

Liberal democracy depends on civility and the civil society.

Plainly your bourgeois Republic relies not on civility but on guns.

*sees another emotional argument and mounts his Freedom... Stallion? (something manly for sure)*

Guns protect children in Israel everyday from potential suicide bombers and other criminally minded people. For the kids!

"...molders of young minds should not carry lethal weapons. Yet there is good precedent for the idea. In Israel armed teachers are common, and terrorist attacks at schools nonexistent. Indeed, it was only during a 1997 visit by Israeli schoolgirls to the "Island of Peace" along the Jordanian border, in which the teachers had been asked to leave their weapons behind, that an Arab gunman took advantage of an easy opportunity to open fire, killing seven children and wounding another six." ~ Massad Ayoob

Your reality (the Australian one) is different than others. When you try to impose your ideas of what should be, you overlook "reality" that don't suit your needs. To each their own. Australia doesn't need/want armed teachers? guns? Good for you, I mean that seriously.

Just because we like our Bill of Rights doesn't mean we don't know the difference between intended use and negligent use. There is a reason why we do have laws prohibiting minors from owning a gun and why we have countless laws stating who can own a gun. Those are not considered arbitrary laws because those laws serve a purpose (no matter how small or dimwitted it may be.)

As long as a law isn't arbitrarily taking away someone's right (which is rare that courts rule that the law is arbitrary) a law can be passed. This law, and here is the kicker, is taking more than enough for law-abiding citizens, not people who are willingly training kids to create a firefight situation.

What is this intended law for when I already have databases searching if I had a previous record of criminal activity or an unstable mind other than taking more of my rights?

People use the word PORN as if it's a bad thing or something

Actually the Swiss are the 4th most armed nation on the planet, (UN Small Arms Survey 2012 ~ http://www.smallarmssurvey.org/publi...rvey-2012.html) yet oddly they don't have mass shootings. OMG could it be something other than the availability of GUNS, that causes people to commit these crimes? Some gun porn fetishists they are! Wannabes. Maybe they spend too much time on other types of porn... like food porn, or maybe they're just counting all their money? *shrug*

I think it's more the culture of the country.

The mass shootings in the US aren't so much a problem of guns availability, but just the overall culture here. It's an intractable problem with no solution, and the media makes it way worse.
