God DAMMIT, @Kasper! How are we supposed to be terrified of Black Friday when you keep providing so many reality checks like this???

    Are you kidding me?!

Shopping in the first place is not fun. Not.

Shopping when the stores are filled to the brim with determined bargain hunters terrifies me, I may not expect to die, but it would be squishy, people would touch me and stuff. NO BOUNDARIES!

Noooooo. I would suggest staying home and doing all your shopping online like cafe, it's just more sane!

We have Boxing day sales over here, which is the day after Xmas, besides the fact it's just way to stupid hot that time of the year, I've never understood it, firstly how people have so much money to burn after the commercialism hell of Christmas and a need for more things after gift giving had all subsided, secondly how they can move after Christmas day meals (and drinks), thirdly why they wouldn't want to be at the beach instead, and most importantly; why, just why?? People are weird.

There is a similar pattern with the injuries. It's ingenious. If you want to talk about how the hype leads to dangerous situations then go ahead, but that link does the topic a disservice so the fact it's met criticism should not be a surprise.
@Kasper (and @Jennifer), I actually have no problem with people criticizing the link's information. All of your points are fair and I agree with your analysis. But there is no doubt that chaos and violence have become part of Black Friday "culture". The jokes are all over the media and any retail employee who has been unfortunate to work that day can attest to it.

I simply wanted to provide the counterargument to the idea that statistically insignificant equals truly insignificant.

Like I said before, I'm halfway for televising Black Friday like the Hunger Games... while I sit on my couch, eat popcorn, and shop online. I'm not above that. I'll also put ten bucks on the Walmart lady in the camo-print pants and fuzzy slippers for first flatscreen TV of the year. Just provide a nurse for the employees.

@Kasper, I'll be honest -- I didn't really do black friday stuff this year, mostly because (1) there is just too much competition and too many ads to sift through where to go when for what, and (2) i can't stand crowds either. If anything makes me go postal in life, it's having a bunch of people in my way on the road or in a store, and feeling completely trapped and at the whims of the crowds. The lack of mobility just frustrates me. I did buy a few small things online, where I could find deals, but pretty much I'll try to go out now after this minor burst of shopping ends and get all my xmas stuff in the next two weeks, so I can miss the Black Friday press and the last week or two before xmas press.

Making people to fight for being able to consume once a year will make them consume more during the year cuz its essentially manipulation of basic instincts

Not many of them do, wiki says US, mexico and canada, also brazil has tried that and some US companies(ebay and wallmart) try to get it to UK. But still its an tradition from US and people in US are killing each other to get lower price on their new consumer crap.

They are not killing one another. The last fatality on the death count page was only a traffic accident where the driver fell asleep on the way home after doing some early morning shopping.

That was just an extreme expression, but its not really far from truth. Do you consider a crowd running over 11 year old kid with a flat screen tv discount on their eyes and sending him to hospital sane? If so, go argue with someone else, if not, you are one of the crazy ones and you should go away in this case also.
