I wrote a paper for my humanities requirement class in college looking at these sort of inspirational/iconic figures. So many of them have weird/shitty home and family lives. It's almost as though the two are mutually exclusive.

He started at a very young age. He writes about this in his autobiography.

Yeah, I was thinking Martin Luther King had similar issues. Nehru said it right. But I don't think these things do not really take away from the ideas of Satyagraha or non-violent resistance.

Accept the past. Live for the present. Look forward to the future.

I don't what all this crap to the effect of "only now can we regain the information" is about. I already knew these things. And I do roll my eyes at it a bit. People usually bring it up (and the tone of this article is no different) with the aim of sullying Gandhi's imagine and getting to feel like they defied something sacred. My own thought is that if this is the worst you can come up with against Gandhi, he really was better than most renowned figures.

I agree, it doesn't. But it is one of the problem of having glorified human heroes, I suppose. People find out the nitty gritty and are kind of disillusioned or something?
