    I think Miley needs to hear it from someone and you would've thought based on her comments that sinead would've been someone she respected.

    And she could've just evolved as a person so much just there by actually hearing it and responding with gratitude.

    @Lady X

    Agreed. It is a rare person to not get defensive in the face of that type of honesty/criticism/tough love (I think there's a bit of all three in O'Connor's letter).
    Your kisses, sweeter than honey. But guess what, so is my money.

    I must not be reading the same articles/comments at Jezebel that you are. There's actually quite a bit of interesting commentary going on at Jezebel about all this.

    Yeah for sure... Maybe she needs to let her ego settle into itself first. Maybe she's too young?? Idk a lot of people never grow out of that ego blindness.

    I actually really love a lot of the things she says in the letter, but it just seems like... I don't know... I just am not sure I agree about the setting of the letter, if you know what I mean.
    I totally agree. Would have been more effective from the perspective of a fellow artist and not from "motherliness".

    lots of what needed to be said has been said

    Why both open and addressed to Miley, rather than one or the other?

    Just finished reading that article, and couldn't have agreed with it more. The thing I find most offensive about all of this is just how positively boring it all is. I mean, for all the ink spilled on the subject of Miley Cyrus, who really gives a fuck? Her music is mediocre, and she's playing out a trope that's been done (and done better) countless times before.
    And so long as you haven’t experienced this: to die and so to grow,
    you are only a troubled guest on the dark earth

    Yep. We could be talking about Janelle Monae who makes really interesting music and has an aesthetic that is fresh and thought-provoking, but no, we need to look at Miley's gross tongue again.

    It's still kind of striking to me that a website dedicated to feminism has an article centered entirely on the nudity of female pop stars, and it basically just says "this is boring".
    Go to sleep, iguana.
