    That was my favorite line of the whole piece. Prancing around like you're better than others is a great way to get put in your place.
    You hem me in -- behind and before;
    you have laid your hand upon me.
    Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

    I Liked Rep. Amash's response to the Op-Ed.

    @repjustinamash: Have you checked out Vladimir Putin's Engadget review of the new iPhone 5s?

    I'm a fair cop; I'll give ya that one, it's amusing.

    Well, especially when you measure it by the ability of most republican representatives to be funny, amusing, or even current.

    is it wierd that I actively listen to what putin has to say?

    I'm kind of lost. I don't really know what his point was.

    "bad shit is happening, we need peace, we need everyone to stop making nuclear bombs. The reason the world has nuclear bombs is to protect themselves from america!"

    Unfortunately, game theory dictates that the only rational choice the USA has is to hold onto the bombs. The idea that the USA would give up nuclear power is laughable. Once we give them up. Someone else WILL get more. Most likely russia, haha.

    This is why I've stopped reading the news. I need to stop thinking about the world and its problems and focus on building a playground for parkour children to run and jump on. Once I have billions of dollars, I might care about the world and solving its problems.

It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.
    It's not a bad thing to care when no one else will. That is exceptional. I suppose the rest of the world would rather we didn't care about anything, that perhaps by caring we make things worse; that's frustrating because such people don't deserve peace when they turn a blind eye to the bad things going on around them.

    Putin is rather projecting his own negatively biased views towards the United States and applying it to what Obama said. It was an innocent statement to motivate people to care about the bad shit people do, rather than not care and risk allowing such things to keep happening.

    It's funny that for once I kind of agree with Obama's sentiment and suddenly everyone that generally supports him is now against him, against involvement in Syria. But it was the same in Iraq too; Saddam Hussein did his own horrible shit, but people would rather criticize everything else about the Iraqi war as if no good came from it. The nuclear weapons didn't really matter. I guess the truth is people don't generally want to get involved in wars for the right reasons, but only if they feel they are in danger. That's very shitty.

    Presumably that we see ourselves as different and above the rest of the world by distinguishing ourselves from them; as if on a high horse -> exceptional. It's a projection much more than a fact.
