    Australian Election

Tomorrow Australia goes to the polls. And we will have a new Prime Minister and a new Attorney General, both committed to free speech.

Free speech has been under attack here for a while by the Labor Party, the Greens, and the Islamists. And political correctness has had its corrosive influence.

But free speech is the basis of liberal democracy, and we will see illiberal laws wound back, and we may even see legislation guaranteeing free speech.

It is too much to hope for a Constitutional Amendment, as Australians are not keen on amending our Constitution. But a legislative guarantee would do.

And we will be able to breathe freely.

And just 16 days later, Germany will re-elect Angela Merkel because, although nobody likes her politics, everybody likes her.

And quite the opposite here, dear Nicodemus. Although many of us liked Julia Gillard's politics, nobody liked her. So Julia was deposed by Kevin Rudd PM, who will loose this election today to Tony Abbot, a liberal conservative. And I have the feeling the country wants to settle down after the rough political ride of the last few years.

Yes, Julia never rose to the heights of mutta.

I have just voted. Voting in Oz is a good humoured affair in the bright sunshine with a sausage sizzle afterwards.

Interestingly we vote with a pencil and paper, and of course it is a secret ballot which was invented in Australia and is called the Australian ballot.

And although it is a secret ballot I am going to tell you who I voted for, but I don't want you to tell anyone, especially you-know-who.

I voted like most of Australia for the Liberal Conservatives.

[Trump's] rhetoric is not an abuse of power. In the same way that it's also not against the law to do a backflip off of the roof of your house onto your concrete driveway. It's just mind-numbingly stupid and, to say the least, counterproductive. - Bush did 9-11

I think Kevin Rudd is pretty terrible, but Tony Abbott is just about my worst nightmare (short of mass murderers etc).

Unfortunately, I see which way it's inevitably going to go...

Usually, I feel like I can predict who is going to win an election. Something in the air... I can feel lit.

Nate Silver helps too. I don't know if there is an Australian equivalent.
